Philadelphia PA – 4 March 2026 A powerful new music document, Billy Idol should be Dead is now showing in cinemas across North America, giving fans an unfiltered view of the life, fame and almost fatal struggles of rock icon Billy Idol.

The documentary, directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Jonas Akerlund, and produced by Live Nation Studios was first shown at the Tribeca Festival. It then toured the country. The TCL Chinese Theatre, Los Angeles, and Regal Union Square, New York City were the first screening venues.

From London’s Punk Scene, to MTV Global Fame

The film follows Idol from his early punk days in London to the time when he was one of the most iconic faces of MTV’s 1980s generation. Rare archival material and exclusive interviews show the highs and lows of his international stardom, including the near-death experience.

The documentary includes appearances and comments from major musical figures including:

  • Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day

“Dying To Live” Earns Oscar Buzz

The film is accompanied by an original track, ‘Dying to Live,’ written by Idol with long-time collaborator Steve Stevens. The song is already on the shortlist of Best original Song for the 98th Academy Awards. This gives the documentary a boost in the awards season.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nomination

Billy Idol is nominated to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class of 2026. He joins a list of other notable nominees, including:
